The book is well written with even a little humor interjected from time to time. Professor Essig does a great job at anticipating and explaining the typical questions that students have of plant biology. The chapter on pollination biology is one of the best I have read on this topic. A good purchase for the bibliography alone!

We're thinking of using this as a "text" to provide background for our incoming grad students (in Botany). We'll add current papers, too, but many (most?) students today have never really had a botany course or even decent coverage as part of biology.
