By dcdave There are so many great lessons to be learned in this wonderful book of tales from a slew of talented Jewish writers. And these are not y"your father's tales" of Jewish lore, set back in the 19th century. No, they weave modern themes and incorporate modern technology, so that today's kids feel like the stories are up-to-the-present, hip, and talking to them.My favorite was the one about the young girl who bought a cute little sock monkey and then started sharing it with any person who was sick or injured. The monkey was so adorable it immediately cheered the child up! Then the monkey got passed on to another ill child, and so on and so forth. It continued to bring joy whereever it went. The mitzvah of Bikur Cholim (Comforting the Sick) was fulfilled !!There are thought-provoking tales like that story all over this book. I highly recommed it !

This will be the Chanukah present of the year for individuals and families of all ages. New Mitzvah Stories stimulates ethical reflection, growth, and action in very creative ways, and the study guide which follows each story offers reflection and deeper understanding. One story that especially stays with me is "What Is, Is: A Midrash" by Daniel Grossman, about the importance of acceptance when dealing with deep pain. Very wise and helpful. . .

Mitzvah Stories and Mitzvah Cards...what a great gift from Reclaiming Judaism Press By Sara Harwin New Mitzvah Stories for the Whole Family continues the Reclaiming Judaism tradition of nourishing our souls with stories of love and relationships. The activities and discussion that are suggested can take practices to a new, higher level. It's a perfect gift...especially when paired with Mitzvah Cards by the same publisher!
