Have you ever left your doctor's office and not known what your bone, joint, ligament, or tendon diagnosis was? Did you understand the medical terms he used, and did you know the treatment plan and how long it may take? Did he discuss the indications and complications of any surgical procedure you may have? Well, you're not the only patient who has done so. After 33 years as an active orthopaedic surgeon, I can fully understand your frustration. I have written this guide to explain the most common bone and joint conditions in easy-to-understand terms so the next time you visit your doctor you will be more knowledgeable and armed with intelligent questions about your condition. This book is written so you, the reader, are with me, one-on-one, as we take a comprehensive tour of the most common orthopaedic problems from Head-to-Toe along with phonetic descriptions of medical terms as well as photos and diagrams depicting the anatomy of many parts of the upper and lower extremities as well as the spine; how an orthopaedist's office works; what to expect the day of surgery; and chapters on stress fractures, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, bone healing, and medical tests.

Me neither. I had the unpleasant experience over the last year interfacing with quite a few. I had no idea where to begin. Every new situation required an extraordinary baseline of research just to be on the same page with doctors who sometimes didn't even seem particularly interested - it was tiresome. If I could impart 1 thing to improve the quality of your treatment, it would be to prep yourself and become aware of what to focus on and what to expect prior to a doctor's visit. That can be a tall order. This guide provides just that - a distilled yet comprehensive insight into the core structures and systems relating to common Orthopaedic conditions. 'The Way I See It' isn't a dry anatomical tome. Dr. Neviaser has over 3 decades of mastery offering pragmatic advice to real problems in plain language. He weaves in punches of humor to give it a pleasant flow appealing to the only structure not referenced in the book, the funny bone.If you're seeking to take charge of your symptoms and have more meaningful effective conversations with your doctor, I sincerely suggest purchasing this book.

Years of a vascular necrosis and now I know so much more. Having the long waits in the reception area makes me realize it isn't not the Doctors fault!Well Done Dr Neviaser! Many friends are going to receive this book as a Christmas gift.

He has years and years of experience and is widely know in his area of expertise, before retiring, as the premiere orthopaedic surgeon to see. He has helped countless people over the years and I am one of them. I started with a severe pain in my foot and called him up. He examined me and said it was plantar fasciitis. I said, "It's what?". He went on to explain to me in detail what that meant and helped me to understand what kind of treatment there was for the problem. I complained and whined and he finally talked me into wearing a boot overnight. I put it off but eventually the horrific pain in the morning won me over. And, it did help. I stretched out that muscle that was contracting every night I slept and helped me to get started in the morning more easily. Exactly, what he said it would do! He also suggested ice and massaging my foot. I did as I was told but I have to admit I complained along with way because it did not go away fast enough for me. Last thing he told me at our initial meeting was...give it one or two years and it will be gone. A year or two? Ugh! Well, he was right. I suffered, I slept with a stupid boot on, and cussed him under my breath (Sorry, Dr. N!) but in the end it went away. Now, within that year I researched other options surgery, laser, etc, and kept asking him about them and he kept saying "has it been even a year yet?". My answer was always, "Not yet!". So I waited and he was right. The pain went away without any surgery or terrifying procedure. Time was what I needed. I heard he wrote a book so I ordered it and went right to the foot chapter and there it was everything he had told me in plain english for all the world to read. Thanks Doc for putting things in a way we can understand. For giving us time to heal before throwing huge surgical procedures at us. And, mostly, for talking to us and treating us as humans and not as a number. I highly recommend this book to anyone with orthopaedic issues who is wanting to understand them more thoroughly and who is wanting information from a highly trained professional who is top notch in his profession and a really great guy to boot!!
