About the Author Colman McCarthy, a syndicated columnist for the Washington Post for nearly thirty years, is the cofounder and director of The Center for Teaching Peace. He is the author of seven previous books and editor of three. Peace is Possible By Nataly McCarthy As a long time fan of Colman's I have to say this is his best work.Through dialogue with former students the reader enjoys gems of knowledge with an easy to understand articulation of pacifism and how to be a person of peace.Don't take Mr. McCarthy's quick wit, forgiveness and vision for world peace lightly.He courageously takes a stand against anyone or any institution that endorses violence as a means of solving a conflict and challenges his students to seek introspection while urging them not to answer the questions but to question the answers.Desire based learning is where it's at.

With often witty and always clear prose, Colman displays wit, wisdom, patience, understanding and love in answering letter after letter with care and focus. This book is ideal for those seeking nonviolent solutions to modern day, complex problems plaguing mankind. I have enjoyed it thoroughly and highly recommend it!

In the student letters we see young people who have been asked to think about some of the dominant issues of our age, from the cost of waging war, to the morality of eating meat, to the often ludicrous costs of our national addiction to football, coming back to their teacher after having moved on with their lives--both thanking him and asking for more insights. And Mr. McCarthy never disappoints. In his inimitably kind and thoughtful fashion, he offers his insights--often referring to the great thinkers and ethicists across the ages. (I was privileged to sit in on a few of McCarthy's classes, and what you get in this book is precisely what you get in his classes--thoughtful possibilities, without being pedantic.)I would especially recommend this book to teachers or potential teachers--regardless of academic area of interest. Having spent most of my life in the classroom, I can say that McCarthy's insights into the differences of what education in our country is and what it could be are spot on--and there is much that any teacher could incorporate even under the current repressive educational system students now endure.
