I suggest buying the Pre-school book to go through first. You go through it fast, but I feel it's a good way to get them "into" the subject if you're doing it for the first time. Both pre-school book and kindergarten book are leveled a little high in my opinion. My first grader is just about right for the Kinder book, and even enjoyed the pre-k book. I can't really imagine a 4 year old doing it.There are gold stars the kids can put on each page that they finish. Most pages don't really need to be written on, if you want to save the book. We just "pointed" instead of coloring in or circling.

If you have the preschool version. this is a bit redundant By ScotFlower At Costco they were selling a Kindergarten Jumbo Workbook by DK for approximately $11. The Jumbo book ended up containing all 5 of the DK workbooks for kindergartners. I think this book would be perfect for a 3-5 year old. I found it however to be very redundant with the pre-school version, even having identical pages and images. If you already have the preschool version of the geography book, you may want to pass on this one. However, if you child needs more practice and did not master the material the first time, then this book will help reinforce that knowledge. I intend to intermix these handouts with my preschool versions to provide enough practice of each skill... and the ones that are identical I may use for assessment purposes. The geography section has a title page with the globe, a table of contents, followed by each worksheet. All images are in black and white so they can be colored, but the pages do include some color on the borders and edges - in my copy its a purple-pink. The top of each worksheet has a fact to read and below it some sort of interactive question/instructions. Sometimes the fact and the worksheet below seem disconnected in the flow of the concepts, but as a parent you can always do the worksheet part first then read the fact if that makes more sense. Also some of the facts really need more teaching / images to ensure the kid is actually understanding and learning the info... esp when the worksheet is disconnected so enforcing that learning. The one biggest failing of the workbook is the lack of repetition so you will need to find other materials to flush out your geography curriculum. The geography section covers: natural vs. man-made, solar system, counting, reading/naming objects, earth is a sphere, flat maps vs. globes, directions/prepositions, travel needs depending on the ecosystem, plot on a map based on directions, compass, mountain ranges on maps, continents, countries, United States of America, cities, neighborhoods, comparing size, map symbols, map keys, and very basic ecosystem info for forests, deserts, islands, oceans, lakes, and rivers. Blank practice pages are included to complete the projects like creating a map or directions in your own neighborhood. To get the best learning out of this workbook, you need to complete the workbook with your child following the parent instructions at the back of the book. You will also need a globe of Earth in spin-able 3D, manipulatives of the solar system and/or book with further information on the planets, flat maps especially of where you live and your country, ability to go on a walk or drive around your neighborhood to write down directions, access to something like google maps to get a sky-view of the neighborhood to create a neighborhood map, and some more information/resources on ecosystems, mountains, volcanoes, islands, etc. as these topics in particular were covered so miniscully.Overall, you need to do some prep to get the most out of this book. However, out of all the workbooks I have seen, this at least covers geography instead of ignoring it!
