He has done an incredible job in bringing to us nuggets of heartfelt emotion and drama that was the source of the great film maker's inspiration !

Perfect companion for Satyajit Ray film lovers By NMG11 I teach a class on Ray's films and because of this book, we are able to read the story on which the film is based and then see how Ray handled the content. This method of "reading then viewing" gave my class members a greater enjoyment of the film as they didn't need to over-concentrate on the subtitles. This compilation of the stories was such a find. I was glad it was released as an e-book as the timing met my needs until the hardcopy was available. I was able to project the book from my iPad for group reading.I will require the book be purchased the next time I conduct this class since it is now in hardcopy. Thanks so much to Bhaskar Chattopadhyay.

Appreciated more outside than inside of India, Ray was a world class film maker. He, like these short stories, bring you into a time and a culture that largely no longer exists. It is stepping back into time and a different world, exploring different classes, castes, rural & urban. Above all, the stories focus on traditional social structures sometimes at their very extreme. Fans will recognize the basic materials for his recasting into films such as Devi the Goddess and the Music Room. Each one makes an impact, but not all are enjoyable in terms of happy endings.
