1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Robert Service in France By John A. Leraas Robert Service went to Paris in the early twentieth century and lived amongst young writers and artists of other media, many of whom we now consider famous. During this residence he was caught up in the first world war. This book of verses is about that experience. The rhymer is clearly on his game during this period showing his abilities in describing people, situations and landscapes. This volume is most engaging, even enchanting. His deep empathy for the human situation is clear as is his ability to see humor and beauty in everyday things, even at war.Highly recommended.John Leraas

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Sometimes the notes are good as the book! By Amazon Customer Service wrote a large amount of notes and diary-like pages I n Paris. In this book he included such notes, useing fictitious names and editing. I believe they reflect his thoughts with accuracy and they are superb writing as is much of the poetry. He captures the atmosphere of remarkable times and places!
