The Ring of Chairs - The Story of a Spirit trained Medium. by Janet Cyford a traditional British Spiritualist Medium Differing from most books listed as a medium's story, this book is not an attempt to amply the person but rather weaves a beautiful teaching of Spirit and Spiritualism and the British Medium's understanding. From the very beginning, the author clearly points to the fact that while thinking she must set straight the misinformation being promulgated by the media, she found the whole concept to have been Spirit directed. We are made aware that the world of Spirit is not some far distant land but simply a different rate of vibration - a different frequency than the physical world we know. We enter the first Chapter to meet the Family Circle and immediately are made conscious of Spirit communication through a trance setting during the first year of World War II. It was this humble beginning that resulted in many family members developing their gifts. The author clearly explains Mediumship and the Medium. She makes it specific that a well-trained medium consciously cooperates with Spirit and the quality of their gift depends upon their ability to achieve, perfect and maintain attunement. These gifts are governed by Spiritual Laws. The purpose of this communication being to prove, or to give evidence of our Soul’s survival beyond death. One method of mediumship is the deep trance state. Without room for question, it is explained that today's "channeling" which seems more relevant to the ego of the discarnate or incarnate personalities in no way relates to mediumship and communication with the identifiable Spirit entities. The Ring of Chairs is a beautiful setting for the group developing mediumship. The home circle provides a safe environment for aspiring mediums. An excellent outline is offered for forming a development group/circle. Specific data is given in regard to the most important component which is the group leader. It is also important that the aims and intention be set out when beginning a circle. Along with this concept, is an understanding of the Spiritual Self within each of us, which is aptly expressed. While reaching out to Spirit, we must understand that in no way will Spirit ever deny you the right of your own free will. The book concludes with segments on Prayer, Absent Healing, Spiritual Healing, Clairvoyance, Psychometry, Extended Sensory perception, The Aura Energy Field. and of utmost importance "The Student." A concluding thought of the author is "It is the released consciousness that transcends the confines of the rational, critical, everyday mind."

Review 1. Roses reviewed The Ring of Chairs: The Story of a Spirit Trained Medium Better Than All the Rest April 7, 2015A reading with Janet Cyford saved my life, after losing someone very close to me. She gave me outstanding evidence, with great compassion and insight, that my loved one is alive on the other side. Most mediums pale in comparison.Since then, I have read practically every book available on Amazon about the Afterlife, After-Death Communications, and Mediumship. So many of the books are full of - at times questionable - popular concepts in the field (often adopted without first-hand experience by the authors/mediums themselves), and/or New Age-y nonsense. This is one of the few books out there that is sensible, enlightening, and truly informative. Ms. Cyford writes in a refreshing no-nonsense manner. Her personal story, evidential examples, and teachings are all fascinating to read. "Ring of Chairs" is a "down-to-earth", practical - yet, poignant - guide to understanding and connecting with the spirit world. It includes substantial information on how to create a safe, constructive, home circle for spiritual development and healing. As she expresses, it is through our own experiences that we will find the answers we seek. She is the real deal, and "The Ring of Chairs" is testimony to it. I wish there were more books like this one!

From the Author                   From the Author                               My reasoning, and justification for writing this book began sometime ago. Disheartened by the lack of good Mediumship and offended by the media's promotion of psychism, I decided to share what I had learned of Spirit communication. I thought it was my idea to do so, but found, some way into my writing, it was not my idea at all. Spirit had sown the seed, and bowing to their wisdom, and cooperating with their suggestions, the chapters flowed with unexpected ideas. As is often the case when we attempt a project Spirit intercedes, steering us to circumstances that reinforce or reeducate our beliefs. The tenets, taught to me regarding life after death in the Spirit realms, were extremely simple. The existence of the Soul is continuous; there is no death other than that of the material body. All that we are continues to be. The Soul, Spiritual Self, consciousness and character prevail. All that died was the outworn overcoat. What we buried or cremated was the temporary vehicle used for our earthly visit. But, more than this was shown to me, for not only did the Soul survive, physical death did not sever the links of love, and friendship, which binds us together. The world of Spirit, to which the Soul returns, is intimately involved with our material reality. It does not exist in some far away location, but merely vibrates on a different frequency than the one we have become accustomed to. From early childhood I had watched my aunt and my father, slip easily into a state of trance, allowing one of many Guides to speak through them. They did not step into the physical body, as some believe but spoke with us by blending with the Medium's physical organs of speech and hearing. All this depended on loving cooperation, between the Medium in this earthly reality and the Guide in the Spirit reality. This quality of Deep Trance Mediumship is now rare, and sorely missed. What passes for communication from Spirit today, is poor in performance, content and delivery, and lacks the dignity, and ease of the genuine phenomena of yesteryear. Every aspect of Modern Mediumship now comes under the umbrella of Channeling. It is unimportant what we call ourselves. However, it does matter when simple spiritual truths, taught by Spirit Guides are adulterated with weird and strange beliefs. My experiences and conclusions will definitely offend those ingrained in the tenets of their own sacred cows. I make no apology for this. Inspired and encouraged by my colleagues in Spirit, I speak and teach from my own lifetime experience of the reality of the afterlife and the continuing contact happening for those of us with the natural ability to recognize the presence of a Spirit communicator. The bedrock of all Mediumship is the Development Circle. Spiritual unfoldment and Soul culture must accompany this type of development, which can only be achieved in the safety of a well-run circle group. Therefore, the core of this book deals with the formation of such groups, and the imagined obstacles preventing people forming a group without a practicing Medium. It is a sane and simple approach to a much maligned, misunderstood, misrepresented, and ridiculed subject. It will teach something new to all who read these pages. In its delivery I have satisfied my need to pass on to others that, which I know to be true. Janet Cyford.

By Robert Collier-James I first bought Janet's book, ''The Ring of Chairs'' in March 2009, entranced by it, I immediately felt as thought I was sitting in the company of the Spirit World. It is a beautiful book, and one can not help noticing the gentleness and genuineness of Janet's writing. Having many books on the old mediums of yesteryear, this is by far one of my favourites. It is a must for any student of Spiritualism, or anyone seeking the truth for a life-after-death. I have no doubt the day this book was published the Spirit World smiled, Janet has done them proud.

Sense, & Sensi(tivity) Sensibilities By Amy Cruickshank This is a rare treasure of a book for those with a clear idea of the development knowledge they are seeking. It can be very difficult to find a trained, experienced guide : Janet offers her knowledge so generously in this book, it is like discovering a teacher. Her sensible attitude towards spiritual subjects is the most refreshing, trustworthy gift of all.I've felt like I was floundering alone until reading this book. Now, I feel fortunate to have read it.
