If you're thinking about living in Mexico you should consider the Baja peninsula, the most popular expat destination in the country. This 2015 revised and updated eBook based on the popular 2011 paperback gives you a fresh look at expat life on the peninsula, especially the Pacific Coast within an hour's drive south of San Diego. The eBook also includes updated appendices on crime, costs of living, and Mexican health care; a bonus section on real estate risks; and many live hyperlinks to external reference sources. The book isn't a travelogue about the entire Baja peninsula, but it contains personal descriptions of many destinations from Tijuana to Los Cabos, with live hyperlinks to detailed information about each place. Many true-life anecdotes fill the book with stories about expats adapting to life outside the USA, making new friends, and becoming part of the local culture. "Crazy Women and Stray Dogs" is a humorous look at expat life with friends and neighbors. "Papa Swims with the Whales" is a glimpse of Mexican family values as the author takes three women and their young children on a three-day mini-vacation to see migrating whales. "They Took the Street" explores how natives and expats alike learn to cope with road repairs that may stretch into months or years. Enjoy!

Review A helpful book on retiring in Mexico, plus a great read! This is a book that should be on everyone's "shelf" if they are thinking about retiring in Mexico. The revised eBook has several new features and the appendices are chock full of updated facts, prices, and statistics about cost of living, medical care, and crime. What has not changed are the colorful anecdotes. The author is a gifted story teller and a serious observer of Mexico. - Michael Hogan, Ph.D., author of The Irish Soldiers of Mexico. Anyone considering a move to the Baja peninsula or anyone simply interested in the area should find I Love Baja! a valuable resource. I've lived in northern Baja for eighteen years, and yet the book held my attention throughout. The thing I like best is the style--the author has written the material so that it seems he's carrying on a friendly conversation with the reader. Each chapter deals with a different aspect, from everyday life to cultural differences. Overall, the author did a terrific job of writing about Baja California. - Marsh Cassady, Ph.D., author & reviewer, The Professional Writer: Getting Ideas; Avoiding Pitfalls. This remarkably improved new eBook is a series of articles that both entertain and inform, and they become additionally useful because of the live hyperlinks that lead to external resources. The author wants to inform those "who are thinking about retiring and living in Mexico," but it is also, in fact, fascinating to all Mexico aficionados. I like this kind of book, heavily anecdotal, personal, but also filled with practical information, and available for next to nothing through Kindle. - James Tipton, author & reviewer, Mexconnect.com.

It was a wonderful read for anyone who truly loves Baja (like myself), for anyone who is interested in just visiting Baja, for anyone considering retiring in Baja and living a dream-like beautiful life just on the Social Security income, or for someone who has never heard of Baja and is wondering what’s so special about it and what the entire buzz is all about. Many books have been written about Baja. What only Mr. Miller’s book has managed to convey, is the warm sense of community that surrounds a newcomer, or a visitor almost immediately when they get there. You are guaranteed to get a warm welcome from “old-timers” wherever you go, to make new friends, and to feel right at home, just like you feel when reading this wonderful book - as if you were reading about people you already know.I was very intrigued when the 3rd, Kindle edition came out. For someone, who is "old school" , and doesn’t even own a Kindle, I was wondering how that type of book would read differently from a traditional one. Finally, I was able to download it on my iPad. Wow! Was I impressed! Not only one can now read about Baja-with one click, you can see exactly what Mikel Miller is talking about. You are being “transported” exactly into place you are reading about and get all the facts first-hand, not to mention to SEE the actual place. The new chapter about the Wine Country of Baja is wonderful. And I thought I knew most of the wineries! Take “Vintango”: I never even heard of it! But, I read about it, I clicked the link, and saw the wines with the labels designed by Baja’s legendary artist Francisco Cabello, I read about it some more…and I know that next time I am in Baja, I am going straight to that winery-I want to taste these amazing wines, especially, the 2011 Nebbiolo, so deliciously described by Mr. Miller! Same goes for everything you read about! Amazing links, great navigation tools, a real glimpse into Baja’s life. Treat yourself to this amazing gem of a book about Baja – you will love it!

You'll Wanna Pack Up & Go By Margaret Van Every What makes Mikel Miller’s book on Baja different from the others is his rich and varied experience with the locals, both gringos and, more importantly, Mexicans, those people whose culture may be inscrutable when viewed only as an uninformed tourist. Miller teaches by personal example that the adventure begins when you leave your comfort zone, trust and mingle. Mexicans may be our neighbors, but they have their own logic and way of doing things. You can acquire a healthy appreciation of the differences without having to agree with or try to convert them to yours. Ours not to reason why, but rather enjoy. This book has much charm and is loaded with practical information you will be glad to know before you inevitably need to apply it. If you’re considering Baja, read this book first. You will reap great dividends in pleasure and understanding.

Written in the author's friendly, informative voice, you'll hear stories of what it's like to live as an expat in Mexico. Having lived in Mexico myself several years ago, many of the first-hand travel stories in the book reminded me of the good as well as challenging aspects of living in a foreign country. Always an adventure, living in Mexico has its share of endearing quirks and you'll want to be prepared for them. I Love Baja accomplishes this in an easy-to-read format that explains the ins and outs of living in the Baja, and is a great addition for anyone who is thinking about making the move to Mexico.
