From School Library Journal PreS-Gr 2—A tribute to all of the things a mom can do. The unnamed girl imagines that her mother has attended "Mom School," where she learned how to do a multitude of tasks around the house, how to play, and of course the uncanny ability to do several things at once. There is humor in the idea that these skills were acquired in an institutional setting, and Burris's funny illustrations rendered in soft pastel hues capture this silly but charming concept. The story is appropriately child-centric, though at the end Van Slyke cleverly works in the fact that the mom is not just a superstar at home but also has a career. Predictably, she declares that her best job is being a mom. VERDICT An appealing addition to read at Mother's Day and throughout the year.—Gloria Koster, West School, New Canaan, CT

Great Book for Preschoolers By Kathleen Ritter Rebecca Van Slyke tickles our imaginations with a unique twist; mothers attending a Mom School to learn parenting skills. Told from the viewpoint of a preschool or kindergarten-aged child, this book will remind your child to appreciate all the special things mothers do for their kids. It’s a great book for beginning readers as the sentences are short, the words are simple and there aren’t too many on a page. The colorful illustrations of moms and their children having fun caring for each other are terrific.

It's narrated by a little girl, who talks about the things she likes about pre-school. She reflects on the fact that her mom knows how to do all kinds of things. The little girl decides that her mom must have gone to Mom School, to learn how to be a great mom.Mom School is full of beautiful illustrations. Priscilla Burris did a wonderful job with the pictures. They were Kaitlyn's favorite aspect of the story.I loved the sweet and concise prose. The story flowed well and easily. There was a bit of humor and the book ended on a really tender note.Mom School is a great read. It would be a perfect Mother's Day gift!

It's about how moms learn to be moms by going to school and taking "Feed your kids vegetables" class and various other things moms do.It could easily be written as "Parent school" rather than just mom school because most of the book are things that both moms and dads do. But it works. It's basically just a list of things moms do. My daughter enjoyed it and we had a good time talking about what a real mom school would be like.
