Cute, relatable, easy to read and fun story for kids By Cheryl Gus the Goat Goes Gluten Free...Such a cute easy to read and relatable story for kids dealing with celiac disease or even other food allergies. As an adult not feeling well and being told you have to change your diet is hard, as a kid who doesn't fully understand all the resons behind why they can't eat something all their friends eat or even something they have had in the past is even harder. This book helps explain to them some of the reasons why and helps them to understand that they are not alone and its ok to politely refuse food they know will make them sick or hurt their tummies etc. The illustrations are cute and kid friendly as well and who couldnt love a goat that just wants to go eat everything. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who knows children dealing with celiac disease or other food allergies.

I love the curiosity that the author painted, figuratively speaking, with Gus and how he would go about his day normally. Then he learned that he has to be on a special diet but that he could still be awesome even with new changes to his lifestyle. I thoroughly enjoyed the Note to Parents. It conveys empathy and compassion. My seven year old son also enjoyed the story. At the end, he said he could understand more how his friends at school must feel like when they eat gluten and shouldn't (because they're on a GF diet). He loved the pictures in the book. Lastly, Lauren did a nice job illustrating!

I love the way children can experience Gus's journey with food allergies, in a way that minimizes fears and normalizes the struggles. As a mom of a child who had life threatening food allergies, I would have loved a book like this to read with him, but also to share with family, friends, school, and church. Rebecca does an impressive job of advocating for kids with allergies, and I love her emphasis on helping them to be awesome!
