Great e-book to have for travel By TawnAnne I am planning a trip to France next year and wanted to learn the basics of French to attempt to get myself around town alright. I loved the addition of the pronunciation guide as the vowels and how best to pronounce them have always scared me off the French language.I also appreciated that this was an e-book so that I could begin learning immediately. The book does have a lot of filler words to bulk up the length, but it is an extremely easy read and very informative for the beginner learner. The basics and fundamentals are all there, plus they really go into depth regarding all of the different sounds you need to practice making while learning French (i.e., nasal sounds).I also found the part about accent marks very helpful. Having worked in food, a lot of menus contain items from the French culture and therefore can contain accents on the words. Reading this section closely was so helpful in how to properly pronounce words like crème brûlée.Regardless of the beginning text, the most useful part that I personally found was the important phrases to study and learn that will help you when in situations where English is not an option. This is about 75% of the book and completely worth every penny spent to download. This helpful guide will remain with me throughout my travel as well, as they really do cover everything from important questions to road signs to help navigating through a pharmacy. I recommend this e-book for an easy download, an easy read and very helpful for anyone looking to travel somewhere that speaks French.

We travel often for business. I needed a quick English to French guide. This looks like it will cover many of our needs when traveling to French Canadian cities, and also when speaking with French clients. The free links to pronunciation audio is helpful to understand the French accent. I like how many of the things are listed as complete phrases, as it is easier than trying to conjugate French sentences for someone like me with no French background. The ebook has quite a bit of content for the price. It covers the basic French, transportation, finance, dining, and other tourism topics I am interested in learning.

How much of a language can a person really learn from a book? Well, after reading this one, I believe you could learn a lot with some time and effort. The real jewel to this is that in the back of the book, there is a link to download a pdf packet and MP3’s that help you learn how to pronounce the words. In the book, the author uses diacritical marks to help you pronounce the words correctly. However, I have a hard time differentiating those, and do better when I can hear the word out loud; that is where the MP3’s come in to play, and they help tremendously! There is a Table of Contents in link format at the beginning of the book, so if you are ever looking for a specific part of the book, it is easy to find. The book is broken down first into parts, and then into chapters, which has a bit of a learning curve to realize at first, but once you get it the table of contents is easy to navigate.Another thing that this book has that I found extremely useful was the charts provided throughout the book. They are simple, to-the-point tables that help with things like how to pronounce vowels phonetically. Combine these with the pdf and MP3’s mentioned previously, and you will be speaking French in no time! The last huge pro that I found for this book was the end. I love to travel, but I’m always so nervous about doing something rude or embarrassing in a foreign country. In the end, the author has put together a little bonus material that goes over the Do’s and Don’ts and other etiquette of the French culture. Yes, I could Google these things to figure them out, but it is nice to have them handy, and I feel better knowing it is coming from someone who is a native. There was one con I had for the book, and that was the spacing. It was minor and could have been the format I was reading on, which was an online kindle reader app, and not an actual kindle.
