By KL This book is a really lovely introduction to geography concepts for small children. My three year old is loving working on this with us, and is learning quite a bit from it. It's a great subject since most preschool and prek class curriculum doesn't touch this topic much. However a couple small things.1. I am not sure the answer key is really needed at this level.2. On the map of the US where they are learning about the states, they completely neglected to label Michigan. I was not aware we were down to 49 states..I mean I realize parts of Detroit are rough but I am not sure it warrants kicking the entire state out of the union...Not a big problem, we took a pen and labeled it ourselves, but boo on the proofreaders. It lowers the quality a bit.3. COLOR pages would have massively enhanced this topic and helped connect young children to the topic. Pages are black and white line work only much like copied worksheets from any classroom. When purchasing materials for small children, finding high quality colorful lessons is a nice thing...it certainly draws the attention of the child and this book would have REALLY benefited from that.Overall a good find and a good value for the price.

Great intro to Geography for little ones By frequent buyer I use this with my 3 year old daughter and think it's a great introduction to the world of Geography and is extremely age appropriate. My daughter loves putting the reward stickers on the pages as she completes them. I'd recommend any of the Pre-K books in this line.

By ScotFlower At Costco they were selling a Pre-Kingergarten Jumbo Workbook by DK for approximately $11. The Jumbo book ended up containing all 5 of the DK workbooks for pre-schoolers. I think this book would be perfect for a 3 year old.The geography section has a title page with the globe, a table of contents, followed by each worksheet. All images are in black and white so they can be colored, but the pages do include some color on the borders and edges - in my copy its a purple-pink. The top of each worksheet has a fact to read and below it some sort of interactive question/instructions. Sometimes the fact and the worksheet below seem disconnected in the flow of the concepts, but as a parent you can always do the worksheet part first then read the fact if that makes more sense. Also some of the facts really need more teaching / images to ensure the kid is actually understanding and learning the info... esp when the worksheet is disconnected so enforcing that learning. The one biggest failing of the workbook is the lack of repetition so you will need to find other materials to flush out your geography curriculum. The geography section covers: natural vs. man-made, solar system, counting, reading/naming objects, earth is a sphere, flat maps vs. globes, directions/prepositions, travel needs depending on the ecosystem, plot on a map based on directions, compass, mountain ranges on maps, continents, countries, United States of America, cities, neighborhoods, comparing size, map symbols, map keys, and very basic ecosystem info for forests, deserts, islands, oceans, lakes, and rivers. Blank practice pages are included to complete the projects like creating a map or directions in your own neighborhood. To get the best learning out of this workbook, you need to complete the workbook with your child following the parent instructions at the back of the book. You will also need a globe of Earth in spin-able 3D, manipulatives of the solar system and/or book with further information on the planets, flat maps especially of where you live and your country, ability to go on a walk or drive around your neighborhood to write down directions, access to something like google maps to get a sky-view of the neighborhood to create a neighborhood map, and some more information/resources on ecosystems, mountains, volcanoes, islands, etc. as these topics in particular were covered so miniscully.Overall, you need to do some prep to get the most out of this book. However, out of all the workbooks I have seen, this at least covers geography instead of ignoring it!
