Meditation is a stress-reduction technique implemented the world over. Although the techniques vary, people from across the globe embrace meditation as an essential part of their daily practice. As scientists and psychologists explore this ancient path today, they are discovering alternatives to traditional meditation. One of these is coloring. The act of coloring can unlock hidden creative potential while alleviating stress by allowing the practitioner to concentrate on specific patterns and colors while letting go of any worries and concerns. This volume showcases images inspired by the ancient art form of henna tattoos, known as mehndi. Throughout the world, mehndi is incorporated into special celebrations and rites of passage, ranging from weddings to childbirth. Seen the pictures all over my Facebook account right? HA. I noticed a friend on Facebook belonged to an adult coloring group. It did intrigue me. Who didn't like to color as a child?Does it work? Yes, it does. I can tell you first hand that when you sit quietly you body is at rest it allows your mind to be at peace. I use this time to talk to my husband, as he is also coloring with me some nights. We chat or we stay quiet. I use the time to think about book review notes I am planning or sometimes nothing at all.The book starts out with a small chapter about where the images come from and the practice of meditation. I found the images in this book to be very enticing. The images they selected are inspired by the ancient art form of henna tattoos, known as mehndi. This book offers intricate patterns that show mandalas and flowers, (my personal favorite) along with symbols of nature, such as lotus blossoms. elephants and peacocks.I colored a few to share with you, so I can give you a first look at what the book has to offer. I did not receive an actual copy but only a Kindle version. I printed these pages off.Details: Product Dimensions: 8.5 x 0.2 x 8.5 inchesI would buy this adult coloring book based on what I do know.Thank you to Netgalley and Greenleaf Book Group and River Grove Books.

I really like this one it is a little different from some of the others and there is some very fine detail in a lot of the pictures, which takes it up a notch to the one I have seen. The love the cherries and the peacocks are certainly different. I think with the fine medallions are something that you could really get drawn into and spend a good deal of time in getting away from the stress of the world. I like this book

By Crackers4Noël I received a preview copy from Netgalley with no obligation to review.I been working with my ill daughter using tangling and/or doodling to help her improve hand eye coordination. I had been looking into Mehndi art as inspiration and was intrigued to see some of those patterns on the front cover. In the introduction, the author discusses that this was an inspiration for the book. I had never thought of coloring the mehndi but that this is wonderful meditation for those of us who are not as artistically inclined but would like to participate in the art form. This is not a huge book but each page has very intricate design patterns that by design must be colored carefully and won't be done in mere minutes. Some of the pieces are free form while retaining the typical look of henna art. Others have wonderful designs made inside more formal shapes (like elephants or hands) that are typical seen in the recent tangling or "zen doodle" movement. I only wish it was a bit longer!
