When a child is diagnosed with Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH) parents experience a range of emotions and responses. They want to understand not only the condition, but also what the future holds for their child. This comprehensive book covers everything you need to know about DDH, from symptoms and explanations of the condition to details of the treatments involved. It also looks at what life is like when your child is in a cast as well as the emotional side of DDH, an area that is often overlooked. Natalie Trice, whose son was born with DDH, wrote Cast Life specifically for other parents as she knows only too well the questions that run through your mind when a diagnosis is made. This essential book doesn't bombard you with medical jargon, but equips you with the knowledge and facts you need to understand and get to grips with DDH. With comments from other parents and case studies, plus expert advice, Cast Life is a must have book for anyone dealing with DDH. The author, Natalie Trice, regularly writes about DDH, parenting and lifestyle issues for various publications, websites and on her blog, www.justbecauseilove.co.uk. She lives in the UK with her husband and two young sons, Eddie and Lucas. Lucas inspired this book and is still on his DDH journey. Review "DDH is one of the most common congenital abnormalities and it is remarkable that there is so little information out there. This book is essential reading for parents, and indeed healthcare workers, who are involved in the care of children who have the condition and I would love to see it in clinics around the world." Professor N. M. P. Clarke ChM, DM, FRCS, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
About the Author Natalie is a freelance writer and blogger who spent the first 15 years of her career as a PR consultant for brands including Cartoon Network, Crowne Plaza, Discovery Channel and T.M.Lewin. In 2013, after a career change to writing, she published an E-book, 'Press Release Writing - An Art Not Rocket Science'. Lucas is now six and faces yet more surgery for DDH in the coming months. As well as publishing Cast Life, Natalie has also set up a UK based charity, Spica Warrior (www.spicawarrior.org), aimed at raising awareness of DDH and helping others who are on their journey. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Finally! A helpful book on DDH! By Amazon Customer As a parent of a child with DDH I had a very hard time finding useful information to help us during this journey. Natalie Trice has written a very informative book that is a Godsend to parents. She got a ton of feedback from other parents on the ins and outs of hip dysplasia. I just wish this book had been around before we went through the surgeries and cast because I think it would have really helped our family. Ms. Trice was very thorough with everything to expect.
