The Miracle of Analogy is the first of a two-volume reconceptualization of photography. It argues that photography originates in what is seen, rather than in the human eye or the camera lens, and that it is the world's primary way of revealing itself to us. Neither an index, representation, nor copy, as conventional studies would have it, the photographic image is an analogy. This principle obtains at every level of its being: a photograph analogizes its referent, the negative from which it is generated, every other print that is struck from that negative, and all of its digital "offspring."Photography is also unstoppably developmental, both at the level of the individual image and of medium. The photograph moves through time, in search of other "kin," some of which may be visual, but others of which may be literary, architectural, philosophical, or literary. Finally, photography develops with us, and in response to us. It assumes historically legible forms, but when we divest them of their saving power, as we always seem to do, it goes elsewhere. The present volume focuses on the nineteenth century and some of its contemporary progeny. It begins with the camera obscura, which morphed into chemical photography and lives on in digital form, and ends with Walter Benjamin. Key figures discussed along the way include Nicéphore Niépce, Louis Daguerre, William Fox-Talbot, Jeff Wall, and Joan Fontcuberta.

The Miracle of Analogy: or The History of Photography, Part 1, by Kaja Silverman

Review "[This book] is overflowing with excellent and challenging explorations of photography and the extensive interaction of photography with visual life. Silverman provides a superb overview of photographic making and thinking . . . Her intensive investigation of ideas and pictures through careful analysis of the writing of significant authors is remarkable and very effective in communicating her broad investigation of photography's effects on human thought and action. The writing is excellent and makes for satisfying reading . . . Highly recommended."—C. Chiarenza, Choice"This is a lovely, intriguing book, powerfully argued, compellingly illustrated—a major provocation. Challenging all the ways we're so used to thinking about photography, its richly textured counter-history invites us to rethink the very meaning of the 'analogue' in the contemporary digital age."— Rebecca Comay, University of Toronto"A masterly account of how photography strengthens the binds that connect us with others and the world, this book argues that each picture holds within the instant of its making an opportunity to see anew the dense and entangled relationships that ground our understanding of what it means to be here."—Paul Chan, artist"Not simply a new counter-history, The Miracle of Analogy marks a paradigm shift after which photography will never again be thought of in the same way. Kaja Silverman's book sets the stage for future debates about the range of photography studies."—Natalia Brizuela, University of California, Berkeley"The Miracle of Analogy is a must-read. Driven by careful study of various practitioners while masterfully juggling historical analysis with theoretical insight, Silverman unearths a missed opportunity in understanding what photography was, is, and will be."—Jacques Khalip, Brown University

About the Author Kaja Silverman is Keith L. and Katherine Sachs Professor of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania. She is the author, most recently, of Flesh of My Flesh (SUP, 2009).

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. I was really impressed... By SJ Cowan Silverman's history of photography is academically rigorous but has a poetic quality that makes it extremely enjoyable to read. In terms of the academic quality: there is an obvious amount of knowledge and research that went into writing this book—I don't mean to suggest that it is full of jargon that a nonspecialist would struggle to understand. This is because Silverman's style, which is subtle and philosophical, but also very approachable, gives each chapter its own sort of sensuous rhythm. And besides the gentle aesthetic quality of her writing, the images she chose to illustrate her points with successfully draw the reader in and drive her narrative forward.I was really impressed by Silverman's ability to not only engage with the history of photography in a creative way, imagining an alternative conceptual framework by which to understand not just the *being* but also the *becoming* of photography; but also with her ability to craft such a complex idea into a book that was so fun to read. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the history of photography (previous knowledge of the subject would help, but is by no means necessary), aesthetics, or in the work of Walter Benjamin or Merleau-Ponty; and I would also, recommend it for those interested in Alva Noë, his "Varieties of Presence" in particular. My only complaint is that I have to wait to read the second volume...but I will definitely be reading this volume again once the second is released.

Love the book By photo teacher Love the book, it is dense with ideas clearly researched and with in depth discussions around Walter Benjamin and other writings that are often the basis of photographic discussions. It was great to go back and e-evaluate the original texts in such detail, and that propels the work into new areas of exploration.Great book for any photo history buff as well due to the collection of the earliest photographs and array of images of camera lucida devises.A real treasure! ( I am buying the hard back version too because I want the color plates that are not in the paperback!)

The closer you listen to the writing conversation, especially when it comes from those who teach craft at workshops and write bestselling books on the topic (in addition to their own critically-acclaimed novels), the more commonality you notice. While it it possible to convey and cloak the basic principles of writing effective fiction with a variety of contexts and tones and approaches, which can sometimes cloud the issues, certain basic truths remain, and they are as universal among genres as they are eternal in their validity. What's less evident, but nonetheless true, is that there remains some "wiggle room" within the parameters of those principles, as well as a deep well of subtleties that become the tie-breakers for writers who harness them to create truly remarkable and original fiction. In this dialogue, three leading voices in the realm of fiction craft seek clarity and precision of those principles, while culling out the subtleties that empower stories and storytellers toward greater heights. The result is, rather than the creation of an ominously higher bar, an illumination of a clear and doable path toward the reaching of that bar, no matter what one's level of experience or genre of choice. Larry Brooks is the author of two bestselling writing books, "Story Engineering" and "Story Physics," and the creator of Storyfix.com, a leading website on the craft of fiction writing. He is the USA Today bestselling author of six critically-acclaimed thrillers. Randy Ingermanson is the author of the #1 bestselling craft book, "Fiction Writing for Dummies," and writes the well known "Advanced Fiction Writing e-Zine," as well as the writing website Advancedfictionwriting.com, where his training products are available. He is the creator the highly regarded process model known as the Snowflake Method, and is the award winning author of the novels "Oxygen" and "The Fifth Man," as well as other science fiction titles. James Scott Bell is the award-winning and bestselling author of the novels "Don’t Leave Me," "Blind Justice," "Deceived," "Try Dying," "Watch Your Back," "One More Lie" and other titles, including the #1 bestselling craft book "Plot and Structure," as well as other craft books. He appears frequently at writing conferences and is a regular contributor to the website The Kill zone (www.killzoneblog.com). This ebook is a 2800 word article. It first appeared on www.storyfix.com.

16 of 16 people found the following review helpful. Great reference! By Ock Shi I'm not sure why Amazon lists it as published in 1997, but FYI - the one I have is the 8th Edition, published in 2002 so there is a very current and up to date version available. Is it comprehensive? Well, with 3,232 pages and more than 142,000 entries - it's called the Deluxe American Edition. There is a pocket-size available, but this is NOT it! This is for the serious student of Korean. It's easy to read and it's got a lot of examples which help with context and sentence structure. It's really a terrific resource. When you're working from the other side of the language, there's a companion volume that helps you go from Korean to English. If you're really working in/learning the language, it's definitely worth it.

This leather covered dictionary is the most comprehensive and accurate with many example sentences. I owe a 2002 American edition with the companion volume Essence English-Korean Dictionary. I can find evern latest computer terminology and abbreviations. It also has practical and useful apnedices. It is worth of the price.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Very nice! By torbjork I've only used this dictionary a little bit so far, but I'm quite pleased with it. I especially like the "phone book" feature (meaning the pages are prepared for "thumbing" to the appropriate starting letter). It also lists several meanings for each Korean word (I'm not certain it lists them all, but it seems likely).A drawback for non-Korean speakers is that the Korean is only spelled in Hangul, not phonetically, but for my purposes of looking up individual words from written documents and figuring out what they mean, it's less important. For a later edition I would suggest that phonetics for the Korean words be included.it also is a big book - you won't want to tote this thing around any more than you have to. For desk-based work it's fine, and the binding allows the dictionary to stay open without you having to force it down. It comes in a cardboard "box" which allows the book to sit in a bookshelf (which otherwise it couldn't, as the binding and cover is pretty soft and the weight would cause it to flop down).

Congratulations! You just finished writing your first novel!

“What do I do next?” If you’re like I was, that was the first question you asked yourself. Do you remember what I said last time? In Nine Day Novel: Writing? Steve, I totally remember: You said, “Bravo! Pop champagne and…” You remember that part after the champagne about calling someone, right? Your Editor—the Last Line of Defense. But editors cost a lot of money. Wouldn’t be helpful if we could minimize some of that expense by doing a little bit of editing ourselves? Before we send it off to an expensive professional? Don’t make the mistake I did! After I wrote my first novel, I debated for months between paying an editor and whether I should just “edit” the entire thing myself. After all, how hard it be, right? Predictably, money won out, and I chose poorly, publishing my first novel before a professional editor had copyedited it.

That was a big mistake. That one decision set my writing career back about a year. Why? Because my book languished on Amazon as yet another unprofessional, unfinished and unwanted draft, posing as a completely finished novel. I got discouraged, disappointed and down. It took months before I overcame my fear of what a professional editor would say about my first novel. Because that was the real reason I had edited it myself all along. A great editor will make your novel shine. Picture your reader, trying to follow the fantastic story that you painstakingly outlined, researched and wrote. As they read, their eyes are interrupted by misspellings, grammatical errors, improper word usage and dialogue that’s punctuated poorly. Finally, unable to stay engaged through those constant interruptions, they give up and close your book. We’re not going to let that happen! Next to a well-designed book cover, your editor will have the single biggest impact on the professional look and feel of your novel. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do a little bit of “editing” ourselves. In fact, inside this book, I’ll show you how you can do quite a bit of self-editing before your draft needs to go to an editor. And that’ll save you money. Removing the mystery about editing. For many beginning authors, editing is a mysterious and often misunderstood process. In this book, I’ll define the types of editing you need, outline the parts that you can and should do yourself, and then explain the process that your editor will go through as they clean up what's left. No idea where to find an editor? I’ll show you how to find a good one on popular freelancing sites. If that doesn't work, I’ll give you the contact information of my own editor! Then I’ll introduce you to a piece of software that’ll save you countless hours in turnaround time, working with your editor. And I’ll walk you through the steps my writing partner and I use to fix our own drafts before they go to our editor.

Avoiding mistakes: Back to fiction writing basics.

Editing is much easier if you make fewer mistakes in the first place. Seems simple, right? It should be. For that reason, I felt it was important for this book to have two parts to it: How to clean up what you'd already written … and how to minimize all that cleanup by knowing what and how to write fiction sentences in the first place. So the first half of the book is about editing process and work-flow. And the second half is a refresher course on the very basics of writing fiction sentences. And the bonuses… I created tutorial videos to show you exactly how I’ve cut Word loose. Cragle You've written your fiction opus, hopefully using Steve Windsor's "Nine Day Novel: Writing: How to Structure and Write Your Novel Faster" book, and it's ready for the world to devour it's every tasty written morsel, right? Well, it might be published, but that doesn't mean that it won't sit on the "online bookstore shelf" gathering dust and zero or minimal sales. The reality is that the book might sell a few copies and slowly but surely the bad reviews come in due to poor grammar, punctuation, missing sections or sections that simply don't make sense. How do we prevent your book from ending up in "Book Siberia" and without breaking the bank? Simply put, it's self-editing.As a prolific author, Steve has experience of having his first book being stuck in "Book Siberia" and also numerous ones that are best-sellers. In NDN: Self-Editing, Steve provides you with lessons learned, good and bad, that will save you time, anguish and money. Here's some highlights:Pros: * The details on why I need an editor, the different types of editing were valuable right from the start to reset me on the correct path.* He lives on Scrivener, a writing program I'd not heard of, and he details the why & how to use this very powerful program. To write the large amount he has, in such a short time, it's evident that this tool is a huge help! Guess what program I'm using now? Yep. :-)* The Day 1-9 walkthrough, tips and items is one chunk of the meat of this book and it doesn't falter. You get examples of letters to send to your editor and what you should expect back and so on. This isn't made-up, rather Steve includes the actual letters to/from his editor. These templates will save you and your editor time and money, set proper expectations and streamline the process!* The second half of the book is a needed review that should be kept on hand for us fiction writers and takes the "theory of writing" and distills it into practical tips and lessons of word usage, keeping track of changes, words used, etc. Sure you could buy a "formal" writing book, but Steve makes the knowledge accessible, applicable and fun!* There are a few morsels I will use already in my writing AND that alone is worth the price of this book. I know that future re-reads will show additional items I will implement.* Getting practical advice from a successful author who writes A LOT, which might costs hundreds in private consulting and it's in this book!CONS: The only con is that this book doesn't actually write my book! :-) That's okay though, since the tips I've learned will help me in my fiction career, not to mention my non-fiction career. My advice: Simply put. Buy this book now! Devour it and leverage the information to write your first book, kick-start you languishing career or bring back to life a book you thought was in "Book Siberia". Get this now before Steve starts charging more!

I just decided to read this one because I already had it downloaded on my Kindle. No surprises here. More Scrivener promotion, more rushed and repetitive writing, more irrelevant Star Wars references. Most of the editing advice is solid enough, though the continued focus on speed seems even more counterproductive in this book. People who say "write fast, edit slow" aren't just talking out of their asses. Doing a rush job or forcing your editor to conform to a short deadline is going to show in your final product. It's the second half of this book that really bothers me though. The author spent the last book prodding his readers to write their novel as fast as possible, waiting until this book to say, "Oh yeah, you should've done all these things while you were writing. It would've made the editing process A LOT easier."*raises eyebrow*Beyond that, his grammatical suggestions are fairly standard (though dumbed down to a ridiculous degree and peppered with useless asides). I didn't see any other issues with the book until I got to the "Final Fiction Writing Tips":* "Don't use passive voice."I hate seeing this phrased as an absolute, because it's not. Active voice is often preferable, but passive can be useful/more effective in certain situations. Teaching readers that it's an automatic "no no" is misleading.* "It keeps the pace quicker if you stick with one character's thoughts and perspectives throughout the story."Maybe this suggestion was just badly articulated, but it gives the impression that a single point of view is the ideal. Maybe it is in some cases, but every story is different. There's nothing wrong with using multiple POV characters in one novel, which I'm sure the author understands. Not sure why he'd suggest otherwise, or why this would automatically translate to "faster pacing."In closing, I think this author's heart is in the right place, but his books on writing are mediocre at best. There are far better alternatives out there.

The Cool Teacher By Tracy Sohl Just finished reading Steve Windsor's book NDN: Self-Editing, I feel like I finally got the cool teacher, instead of the little old lady smacking a ruler in her hand. His whimsical approach to editing takes the ruler (I mean tenseness) out of the process. It would make a perfect gift for any student taking a fiction writing course.

The Driftless Area is the land the glaciers missed, an ancient landscape of bluffs, ridgetops, and steep valleys that long ago was a seabed. Covering much of southwestern Wisconsin, its contours were deeply carved from bedrock, not by ice but by many rivers.             Crossing the Driftless is both a traveler’s tale and an exploration of this dramatic environment, following the streams of geologic and human history. Lynne Diebel and her husband, Bob, crossed the Driftless Area by canoe, journeying 359 river miles (and six Mississippi River locks and five portages) from Faribault, Minnesota, where her family has a summer home on Cedar Lake, to their Wisconsin home in Stoughton, one block from the Yahara River. Traveling by river and portage, they paddled downstream on the Cannon and Mississippi rivers and upstream on the Wisconsin River, in the tradition of voyageurs. Lynne tells the story of their trip, but also the stories of the rivers they canoed and the many tributaries whose confluences they passed. Crossing the Driftless: A Canoe Trip through a Midwestern Landscape, by Lynne Diebel

Review “Engaging, multifaceted, and accessible, Crossing the Driftless is like no other canoe trip book. We learn a wealth of information about ecology, geology, people, and politics on the riverways.”—Mike Svob, author of Paddling Southern Wisconsin“Delightful reading. Diebel makes the waterways the stars of her story, living characters with personalities and moods and varying degrees of popularity, beauty, and neglect.”—Mary Bergin (roadstraveled.com), author of Sidetracked in Wisconsin“Part travel journal, part history lesson, and part science class—all bound together in fewer than 250 pages. . . . Armchair travelers might be tempted to rent a canoe this summer.”—Isthmus

About the Author Lynne Diebel grew up in southern Minnesota and has lived in Stoughton, Wisconsin, since 1974 with her husband, Bob Diebel, and their four children. Her many books are centered on the landscapes and natural world of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Lynne has been canoeing lakes since childhood. As an adult, she learned to canoe whitewater rivers with Bob, and together they paddled almost 3,000 miles on the rivers of Minnesota while researching their two guidebooks, Paddling Northern Minnesota: 86 Great Trips by Canoe and Kayak and Paddling Southern Minnesota: 85 Great Trips by Canoe and Kayak.

"As [Disconnect] shows, cell phones may actually be doing damage to far more than our attention spans-and could, in fact, be killing us." -Salon.com. Since the invention of radar, cell phone radiation was assumed to be harmless because it wasn't like X-rays. But a sea change is now occurring in the way scientists think about it. The latest research ties this kind of radiation to lowered sperm counts, an increased risk of Alzheimer's, and even cancer. In Disconnect, National Book Award finalist Devra Davis tells the story of the dangers that the cell phone industry is knowingly exposing us-and our children-to in the pursuit of profit. More than five billion cell phones are currently in use, and that number increases every day. Synthesizing the findings and cautionary advice of leading experts in bioelectricalmagnetics and neuroscience, Davis explains simple safety measures that no one can afford to ignore.

Disconnect: The Truth About Cell Phone Radiation, What the Industry Is Doing to Hide It, and How t, by Devra Davis

Review Davis makes a strong case in her book that we've underplayed the possible threat from cell phones for too long...Time and again, she shows the way that industry has been able to twist science just enough to stave off the possibility of any regulation."—Time Magazine

"Disconnect will surprise many and anger some. It tells all too human stories behind the science and engineering of cell phones and raises important unresolved questions about this universal technology."—Frank A. Barnes, Professor, University of Colorado at Boulder, Member of the National Academy of Engineering

"A critically important book that is a must—read for parents and policy makers. A surprising, well—documented, and compelling call for action."—Phil Lee, M.D., former United States assistant secretary for health, Chancellor Emeritus, University of California, San Francisco

"An amazing and important book that must be read to be believed. Are these devices safe for humans? The 'don't ask, don't tell' approach of the industry is irresponsible at best, criminal at worst. Read and learn why and how to protect yourself and your loved ones."—Mark Hyman, M.D., author of The UltraMind Solution, Chairman, The Institute for Functional Medicine

"A brilliant and courageous tour de force by one of our nation's leading environmental health experts. Davis provides a detailed exposé that forces us all to take a good, hard look at what we know and what we don't know about cell phones." —Ronald B. Herberman, M.D., Founding Director Emeritus, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute

"Devra Davis has written a book that will change the way the world thinks about cell phones and the potential public heath disaster they represent."—Carlos Santos—Burgoa, M.D., M.P.H., Ph.D., Past President, International Society for Environmental Epidemiology

"This book will be a must—read for anyone who cares about our children's brains."—David Servan-Schreiber, M.D., Ph.D., author of Anticancer

Davis can really write, and she's been talking with many of the key scientists. Prof. Om Gandhi used to work with Motorola but has been an independent professor for decades. His work on how microwaves penetrate deeply into a child's brain raised many eyebrows, but what he says here is just devastating. Similar info from Prof. Adelkopfer in Europe, plus a great intro into the work of Dr. Sam Milham.Anyone can understand this book, but scientists will be most surprised by how much they learn about the mechanisms of damage (still not completely worked out, but the smoking guns are plain to see). The weakest part is the appendix on how to protect yourself. Too much emphasis on using a headset. That does reduce the intensity of the microwaves, which should protect you from the diseases Prof. Olle Johansson has studied, but not nearly enough to protect from the nerve damage and blood-brain barrier penetration seen by Prof. Salford; in fact, it could make that worse. Even those making only 2 calls per day must consider themselves to be at risk based on the behavior changes seen in the study led by Prof. Kheifets.I'm a scientist and I have read these papers, so I wasn't shocked. I already knew cellphones were deadly and already canceled mine years ago. But I did learn some important things and was pleased to get the inside story from these researchers. I'm sure this book will be condemned by the same old people (Prof. Bob Park, Ken Foster, etc. Note they will all have military backgrounds if you read their resumes). But to attack this book they're going to have to dismiss some of the strongest researchers in the field, many who were formerly funded by industry, plus the former head of the WHO...

I was expecting much more By T Payne I recently started giving a lot more consideration to the things around me: electric and magnetic fields, soaps, cleaning chemicals and, yes, microwaves like ovens and those emitted from phones. I have a doctorate degree in science and have written papers myself. It is no mystery at all that a lot of research in every field is distorted by politics, money and industries. The author spends an inordinate amount of time detailing the history of cell phone research and how it wasn't really valid or how it was manipulated by the cell phone industry. OK, I get that. Thanks. So why a 2 star review? First of all, it was very boring to read chapter after chapter about cell phone research - I thought a portion of the book would be about that, not close to 80% of it. Second of all, it didn't really answer many of the nagging questions which it claimed to answer. The book says right in the title, "...and how to protect your family." For having that right in the title, I was amazed that her advice was limited to a few pages in the very last chapter. By the end of this book, I thought I would know a lot more about the technical issues of microwave exposure and how to minimize it. She mentions that you should not keep a phone on your hip but doesn't really say why or how important that is. I have to carry a phone with me for work emergencies, for example. I can't turn it off...ever. What should I do?Here are examples of what I wanted answered: I was hoping to find out how much radiation a phone in standby transmits, how this might affect me and how far my kids should be from a phone on standby. I also wanted to know more about those huge cell towers you see around the neighborhood. How bad are those? What if I can see one from my house, is that a problem? Also, I heard that if you connect a wired headset to a cell phone it actually transmits radiation right to your head through the wire. Maybe that's an urban legend, but I thought she would explain how much safer that may or may not be. How about the Bluetooth headsets? How much energy do they transmit? These are the real questions for those of us who use and are exposed to cell phones. I have many more questions that were left unanswered. Knowing about how the cell phone industry is corrupt is all very interesting, but I need some practical advice here! So if you are looking for that too, look elsewhere.I will also mention that her writing style was not what I expected based on her past books and credentials. It seemed rushed, poorly thought-out and poorly organized. She would talk about some scientist or research and then talk about it again like it was the first time 3 chapters later. She would jump chronologically from things that happened in the 60s-70s when Motorola was developing cell technology and then jump into something in 2005, only to jump right back to something before Motorola...none of which made sense or kept me on a logical timeline. This made the chapters just drone on and on and I found myself just skimming a lot midway through the book. At some point I felt like the publishing company was rushing her to wrap it up, so it ended up being unrefined and way too wordy for the information she was trying to get across. This book could have had half the words and it would not have lost anything.IN CONCLUSION: A poorly organized book which is VERY heavy on what the industry has done to hide the truth about cell phones and almost NOTHING on how to actually protect your family from it.

Being a Realtor for 25 years I spent most of my life with a cell phone to the right side of my head with excessive minutes 1,000 - 3,000 per month. People are waiting for the government to tell them that it isn't safe. I am living proof that it isn't. In other countries our children are not allowed to purchase cell phones until they are 18 years old. Although I do agree that the reading is challenging for the person who doesn't have a scientific mind or a personal story that resonates with the book. It would be beneficial for Devra to write a follow up book or guide answering the questions and elaborating on how to protect our families. If you are interested here is my story:For 42 years I lived a very busy life always focused on the next goal and how to achieve it. Together with my husband we have made many beautiful things, most notably our two daughters. Prior to being diagnosed with my brain tumor my life seemed to be spinning out of control. My body had trouble keeping up with my racing mind. I was diagnosed with bells palsy while pregnant with my second child. I never felt the same. For several years I went to doctors and because I looked "healthy" they told me that it was just depression. Being a real estate broker and experiencing the most difficult times of my 25 year career it certainly was believable. However in my heart I knew that something was wrong. The week before I was diagnosed I went to a specialist. He ran numerous tests and we made an appointment for the following week. That Sunday at church I prayed and gave my life to Jesus Christ. I continued to race through each day struggling to understand my challenges. On Thursday morning I went to spin class at 6am and didn't feel quite well, I left early and went home to quickly get my 5 year old daughter ready for school. We jumped in the shower and that is the last thing that I remember. I'm told that I fell to the ground with several Grand Mal seizures. My husband was home and called 911. That was March 31, 2011, the day before our health insurance expired. There are no coincidences in life, God is in control. I have learned that the control that I thought that I had those 42 years of my life were an illusion. Please don't feel sorry for me as I believe that my tumor was a blessing in disguise. Our heavenly father found a way to get my attention. The purpose for sharing my story is to share the lessons that I have been taught. In todays world the focus seems to be on the prize when truly the greatest wealth that we have is our health. Listen to your body, if something doesn't feel right be persistent. My tumor is an Oligodendroglioma and was located in the right frontal lobe of my brain. On April 13, 2011 a very talented surgeon removed the majority of it. I have elected not to have the standard treatments recommended, which are chemotherapy and radiation. I believe that with lifestyle changes God made my body strong enough to heal itself. Brain tumors are chronic, this means that there is no cure they eventually grow back. When I ask what caused my tumor I am told dumb luck. This doesn't sit well with me. Being a real estate agent since I was 18 years old I have used a cell phone excessively. The World Health Organization has confirmed that there is a link between gliomas, Meningiomas and brain tumors. Other countries discourage their youth from cell phone use. I have seen over 12 doctors since my diagnosis and not once has anyone ever asked me about my cell phone use. If you don't ask the questions you will never draw the conclusions. Every three months I get a new MRI to see if my theory is correct. My deficits from my surgery are challenging but I am choosing not to focus on what I can't do any longer and accept my new normal. I don't know what tomorrow will bring but honestly none of us do. It could be a car accident that eventually kills me not brain cancer. So my message that I want you to take away is to start every day making a list of what you are grateful for rather than what you feel is missing in your life. Teach your children a love of life not technology. If you don't know God be certain that he knows you. In the brain tumor world it is important that we all recognize that there are 120 different types of tumors and all of our cases are different. No two people are alike so what works for me may not work for you. However a strong relationship with God will guide you in your path. Help me spread the word about Brain Tumor Awareness so others don't have to experience what I have. [...]
