I would have wished for Mark Joshi to have written this fantastic book back in my first year of studies By Amazon Customer This is a must have book for anyone who wants to become a serious mathematician. Despite being awarded top of the year in first year pure mathematics at the University of Melbourne back in 2009, I would have wished for Mark Joshi to have written this fantastic book back in my first year of studies. Why? The transition from high school mathematics to university mathematics has been increasingly difficult in modern times due to falling standards. There is a mathematical arsenal one needs to gear oneself with to be a proficient mathematician such as developing a certain level of mathematical maturity, daring intuition to attack new problems and a strong grasp of mathematical proofs beyond basic algebra manipulations. This book is the solution and holy grail. As with all of Mark's books such as Concepts and More Mathematical Finance, the conversational tone infused with his simplistic and elegant explanations and shedding new light and insights on even the most over-treated topics makes the book inviting to read while filling in those important holes in one's mathematics education.
