By Amazonian Buyer As a fan of the Martial Arts, I found this book fascinating.The author gives an excellent primer starting with a short history of where Kun Tao started and how it eventually evolved, and incorporated into other martial fighting systems of Asia.Plenty of photos show techniques and the tools, explained simply on how it can be used in practical street combat for self defense.Techniques shown are plain and simple with no fancy moves- exactly what I'm looking for.Hope more will be written on this subject, and a recommended read for those thinking into practicing martial arts, as well as current practitioners.Good book to have in your martial arts library.

He has met his stated objectives as an author in this book and given the reader a great overview of art. Not as difficult as I thought By Denniger Bolton As I usually do, I read through this book on how to speak Russian, before spending a whole week completely learning the language. I wanted to at least learn the alphabet and be able to count up to ten and maybe learn some basic questions like, where's the train station? and please, some more Vodka, or I love you, that sort of thing. And I was able to do that. One of the things I found out is that Russian is not such a hard language after all. It doesn't have the complex sentence structure of English and Spanish, two languages I already know. The author, Steve Mcqueen says that instead of, "can you please pass the ketchup?" You say, "give ketchup please." I like that in a language.

And in such a short amount of time, I am already speaking Russian within just one week. I'm not fluent just yet but this book definitely will speed up the process of learning Russian! It focuses on how we can nurture a love of reading in our youngest learners and the ways they make meaning from various texts, even if the book is above their reading level. Kathy Collins and Matt Glover truly appreciate the amazing work young students do while reading. I also loved the videos that go along with it- such a great idea and so helpful for teachers!

RAPSCOTT’S GIRLS by Elise Primavera is a quirky middle grades boarding school fantasy.A group of reluctant 8-year-old girls arrive at the Great Rapscott School for Girls of Busy Parents to find one child missing. While in search for their missing classmate, they learn important lessons about bravery, self-reliance, and friendship. Although the premise is absurd, some readers will empathize with the characters who have absent parents. Although the clever, sophisticated humor will be lost on some younger children, older readers will find the humor appealing.Primavera’s interesting characters, easy-to-read writing style, and balance of descriptive versus dialogue segments were just right for lower, middle grade readers.The book begins and ends with beautiful illustrations showing the isolated, but fascinating lighthouse setting. Numerous black-and-white drawings are then woven throughout the story.Intended to be the first in a new series, librarians will find this to be a pleasing addition to the collection. What a wonderful, playful imagination she has. I also enjoyed the fun but seriously odd tale of the Gum Street Girls. So when I saw that she had a new book out, I checked the audio version out as soon as it was available at my library.The audio version is read by the talented Katherine Kellgren, winner of the 2011 young adult best voice in fantasy and science fiction and an Audiofile Golden Voice. She did an excellent job of bringing Miss Rapscott and her girls to life through all their adventures.Miss Rapscott runs a school for children of very busy parents. In fact, only the daughters of the world’s top 5 busiest couples are admitted. Their system is irresistibly easy to busy parents. Miss Rapscott simply mails them a large carton with instructions for mailing their child to the school.Four girls arrive at the school, but the fifth box is empty. Dahlia Thistle’s parents forgot to seal her box and she has somehow fallen out. Miss Rapscott and her two corgi assistants, Lewis and Clark, seem unconcerned but classmate Fay is determined to find Dahlia. Meanwhile the girls are busy learning all the things their parents never taught them because they are so extremely busy. Things like how to cross the street and to always change your underwear. The girls have difficulty getting along at first because making friends is also something their parents haven’t taught them to do. And they are not sure what to make of Mrs. Rapscott’s odd lessons or her course in “Finding your way” which requires them to get utterly lost on purpose to begin with but eventually they gel into a team that is capable of finding out what happened to Dahlia Thistle.Brimming with magic and humor and seasoned with a dash of mystery, this book is pure fun for middle grade readers.

Such a fun adventure, such whimsical By Lisa M DeSelm I'm trying to read up on children's and middle grade fiction, while working on my own middle grade fiction novel, and I came across this and was instantly drawn to it! My 8 year-old self (buried in my current 34-year-old one) would have worn this book dog-eared! Such a fun adventure, such whimsical, funny characters - Ms. Rapscott is definitely a teacher to love. Her illustrations are also really fun and sweet. I hope Elise Primavera gets the chance to continue their story in a future book

This book will answer two basic questions: First, what is the extent of the significant research resources you will you miss if you confine your research entirely, or even primarily, to sources available on the open Internet? Second, if you are trying to get a reasonably good overview of the literature on a particular topic, rather than just "something quickly" on it, what are the several alternative methods of subject searching--which are not available on the Web--that are usually much more efficient for that purpose than typing keywords into a blank search box, with the results displayed by relevance-ranking computer algorithms?This book shows researchers how to do comprehensive research on any topic. It explains the variety of search mechanisms available, so that the researcher can have the reasonable confidence that s/he has not overlooked something important. This includes not just lists of resources, but discussions of the ways to search within them: how to find the best search terms, how to combine the terms, and how to make the databases (and other sources) show relevant material even when you don't know how to specify the best search terms in advance. The book's overall structuring by nine methods of searching that are applicable in any subject area, rather than by subjects or by types of literature, is unique among guides to research. Also unique is the range and variety of concrete examples of what to do--and of what not to do. The book is not "about" the Internet: it is about the best alternatives to the Internet--the sources that are not on the open Web to begin with, that can be found only through research libraries and that are more than ever necessary for any kind of substantive scholarly research. More than any other research guide available, this book directly addresses and provides solutions to the serious problems outlined in recent studies documenting the profound lack of research skills possessed by today's "digital natives."

At least try it first before you read any others...I wish I did. It gave me a bit of an adventurous feeling, discovering how to find what you are looking for from every possible angle, picking up more golden nuggets that the other mentioned strategies may have missed.

I think it is best used as a reference book that you can go back to again and again as you pursue your research rather than a book that you read through other than to gain a cursory overview. The information provided is very dense and specific. The book is well worth owning. (A slight disappointment, but not serious: I was surprised to find a number of misspellings and word omissions in a book from such a prestigious publisher as Oxford University Press.)

A Helpful Read For Anyone Considering Bariatric Surgery By Chad Farrand This book offers an honest, thoughtful and witty perspective on bariatric surgery - from a male perspective. That's something that is strangely missing from this experience. For men who are facing the difficult decision, Bates speaks right to you. His humor makes this an enjoyable and quick read. You will journey with the author from his early memories of life with food and football through to his surgery. If you are trying to decide if you should have this procedure, you should make this easy purchase for the encouragement and advice. His plain talk as a doctor is refreshing, he doesn't talk over your head at all, but connects to your heart. Do yourself a favor and buy this book!

She was a Jesuit lay volunteer after college. She thought it would be a good book to read before our Alaskan Trip. It was fun and an easy read.

I got a copy from the Anchorage Museum during a recent trip through Alaska. I couldn't stop reading even though I was busy traveling through one of the most beautiful corners of the globe. This book offers history, gives insight into the various clans in the region and how they work together, and is even funny at points. Definitely give this a read before your own Alaska travels or if you just have an interest in history and cultural tourism. I certainly can't wait to read more of Ms. Bunten's work!

I use Epsom salts myself after long walks to soothe my feet, but the author has created several great recipes for Epsom Salt usage, not only for the body, but also for use all around the home and beyond! I have to say that I've only used Jillian Michaels DVDs since having my kids for the last 4 years and like them a lot By daniela Have a New Trainer!Last week, my sister told me to check out Doug's workouts to change my routine up. I have to say that I've only used Jillian Michaels DVDs since having my kids for the last 4 years and like them a lot. So, I was reluctant to try something else but I found her different programs a little repetitive with exercises and workouts...hence, I bought " the 15 minute Metabolic solution" and absolutely think these are my new Go-To workouts. They are the most challenging workouts I've done which says a lot since I've been working out for 20 years plus... I wish he'd come out with a dvd himself. I highly recommend using these workouts for a great change and you'll be sore for sure. Challenging and fantastic! Doug is a 5 star trainer.Sent from my iPhone

There are plenty to choose from and I will pick 2 15-minute cardio, arms or leg workouts. The workouts are harder than any other "quick" workouts you will find online.Everyone knows the key to eating healthy during a chaotic week is to plan ahead and these recipes make it easy...I will make the soups and quinoa salads in the beginning of each week and freeze small portions making it super easy to stay on track. Also a great overview of healthy eating, the importance of non GMO foods and more.Highly recommend this to anyone who is ready to get in shape and make changes in their diet that will work for their whole family.

The diets are great as a guide.....I cheat a little but the reason I bought this book was for a change in my workout routine so for me the diet is a bonus I wasn't expecting. Now I see why he is an expert trainer...5 days and I am already getting more time and feeing fit. Love this book!!

About the Author Kelly DeLong is originally from Center Valley, Pennsylvania, and currently lives in Duluth, Georgia. He teaches English at Clark Atlanta University. A great gift of someone heading off to college for the first time. DeLong follows volunteer students that report to him throughout their first and second semester as freshman in college. Learn about those students that desperately want to get a college education, but because of financial or family issues struggle to maintain high grades or even remain in college at all. DeLong also includes interviews from college staff who give their insights on how to be successful and avoid some of the common pitfalls freshman encounter. Easy to read and very enlightening. Well done!

Students will find the book beneficial because it outlines the steps they should take in order to be successful in college; teachers will find the book invaluable because it can help them create strategies to improve student-success. Although worth reading for the aforementioned reasons, the book is beneficial for another reason: it's intimacy--if that makes sense--allows teachers to know certain things about students' private lives. Knowledge about student's extra-curricular activities are important insofar as it can help teaches, help students, be successful.
